Tennis star Andre Agassi will be on hand to celebrate the opening of a new charter school in San Antonio on Oct. 22.

Agassi is the co-managing partner of the Turner-Agassi Charter School Facilities Fund which helped finance the renovation of a former big-box retail center at 4343 W. Commerce St. into the new KIPP San Antonio Commerce Campus, currently home to three KIPP charter schools.

Agassi will tour the new facility Wednesday morning along with local political dignitaries including U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro and Texas Rep. Mike Villarreal.

The new school will serve more than 1,100 students in grades kindergarten through 8.

The fund aims to create up to 35,000 new charter school seats in 70-75 schools by the fall of 2015.

KIPP San Antonio is a growing network of free, college-preparatory public charter schools.
