Texas places 31 high schools in Newsweek's top 500 list

High school is a time when students exhibit great hometown pride and spirit and the latest ranking from Newsweek is giving plenty of Texas schools something to cheer about.

Thirty-one Texas high schools joined the ranks of the nation's Top 500 on Newsweek's annual list. Each part of Texas is represented, from the tip of the valley to the mountains of West Texas, the Panhandle, the state's capitol and the three large metro areas. The Houston area itself can claim eight high schools, including three in Katy.

Magnet programs ranked prominately on the Texas list taking nine spots, including the state's top three with one in the nationwide top 10. You'll have to travel to Austin to attend the best high school in the state.
